How to wash silk, wool, denim and delicates while keeping their look, feel and shape
Special fabrics require specific washing conditions because their fibers react differently to heat, water, and movement. The right settings help preserve their shape, texture, and appearance over time.
What makes special fabrics different
Special fabrics are not weaker, they are more sensitive to how they are treated. Silk reacts to friction, wool to heat and agitation, and denim to excessive washing and abrasion.
Treating them like standard laundry leads to fading, shrinking, or loss of shape. The goal is not just to clean them, but to protect how they look and feel.
Care for special fabrics correctly
Wash by the most sensitive fabric in the load
If one garment in the load is delicate, the whole load should follow its needs.
- Silk: low heat and minimal friction
- Wool: low heat, gentle movement, low spin
- Denim: inside out, moderate washing
- Delicates: gentle cycle and enough space
Do this: always adjust the wash to the most sensitive fabric.
Use gentle cycles when the fabric needs them
Strong cycles and high temperatures create unnecessary stress on fine fibers.
Do not put silk, lace, or fine knits on strong cycles.
Instead, use delicate or wool cycles and keep temperatures low unless the care label allows otherwise.

Reduce friction during the wash
Friction is one of the main causes of damage during washing.
- Turn denim inside out to protect color
- Avoid overcrowding the drum
- Use lower spin for shape-sensitive fabrics
